Alright! Here's the final version of my 180 degree turn.
There's still some things to fix, like the silhouette when the leg is coming back down from the swing - then the feet/legs are a bit muddled up. Maybe I should just seperate them and not have them touch and kick the other one out of the way, which seems to be confusing... what do you think?

AM 201 - Ref & Blocking
Here's the blocking pass to my first assignment this term: I chose the 180 degree turn.
Term 2 is all about body mechanics, so no acting/personality pieces - we're purely focussing on the actual movement and mechanics of the human body.
...I really have to keep that in mind, it's so easy to get carried away! ;)
And here's the video reference I shot of myself.
I initially put in the bit where I almost lose my balance at the end, but Shaun (my mentor, what a great guy!) suggested I put in an actual step to restore the balance. More pleasing to the eye and more suitable for animation. So, my lesson for the day was: don't rigidly stick to your reference. :)

Walt Stanchfield Books
Did you order yours?
A collection of the legendary notes from Disney's Animator & Mentor Walt Stanchfield - finally released in the form of 2 books!
Don Hahn and Walt's widow lovingly pieced together these two inspiring volumes from Walt's lectures, mostly from the handouts he wrote for the internal Disney newsletter "The Twilight Bark". Disney Animators have been drooling over this for years, so I'm sure it'll be a must for every animator. It's so great that all this insider info is finally passed on to all of us!

Intro & Class 1 Reel
Hi everybody!
You know what? After over 3 months at Animation Mentor and after seeing so much cool and inspiring stuff, I've decided it's time to start a blog about my experiences here!
I was a bit hesitant to blogging myself at first, especially since there's so many AM blogs out there already, but since some of you asked me to do so, I figured: why not give it a shot!
So, here it comes: you'll be able to follow my progress throughout the course, see how my assignments grow, learn about other more or less useful stuff along the way, and I'll also post what I feel is missing on many other blogs: what I actually learned from each assignment / mentor feedback.
Since I started this blog only now, in the beginning of Class 2, here's my Class 1 progress reel for you to check out:
So that's what I've been doing at AM over the past 3 months! It's been a blast and I learned A LOT, really. I have a much better idea on what areas I have to improve on and how to go about it! :)
Please do post comments & crits, after all, I'm here to learn, so don't hold back.
Hope you enjoy!
Love & Peace,
'stoph
PS. Let's see how long I can keep up posting stuff here regularly... anyone wanna bet? ;)
